This fine example of Sgraffito embellishment can be found in Weissenkirchen on the Danube River in Austria. Sgraffito is created by applying several layers of plaster tinted in different colours to a wall. Then parts of the upper layer(s) are scratched away to create patterns or images. A little like in reverse appliqué or in Mola quilts...

On 20 July 2020, we opened our second virtual exhibition, the 50pictures Retrospective.

These quilts represent a selection of the 120 quilts resulting from our online activity "50pictures" which we organized in 2016. Just as for our current activity "archiTEXTure", we published an inspirational photo every week and invited quilters from around the world to interpret these photos freely.

This photo shows the unique 100-story skyscraper located in the Magnificent Mile District in Chicago, Illinois. Its official name changed to 875 North Michigan Avenue but this famous landmark building is still colloquially called the John Hancock Center. From the observation deck you can enjoy a 360° view of the city and  Lake Michigan.
