Eostra’s Dream of Spring

Eostra's Dream of Spring

Eostra is derived from Ostara, Eostre or Eostrae, the teutonic goddess of dawn, fertility and spring. The name is derived from the old English name Eosturmonath for the month of April. In one of the more colourful stories about this goddess, she is said to have been the bride of the young earl of May. There are, admittedly, sources telling other tales, but we prefer this one and find it most suitable for our necklace which was made from a piece of bali fabric in pinks and only the slightest hints of grey and purple – in short, the colours of dawn... Fabric Beads

Fabric Beads have been one of our favourite past times here at Quilt around the World since summer 2010. We have rolled numerous triangles – symmetrical ones and asymmetrical ones – into beads which we have then transferred to items of jewellery. Some of these items you can see in the Project section within the Wearables category. And there will certainly be more designs to follow... (5 April 2011)

More Durable Fabric Beads

After wearing the Summer Baubles almost every day in summer 2010, the beads started to fray in a serious way. Despite the dense weave of the bali fabrics we used, the constant movement against skin and other fabrics just didn’t do our beads any good.

So we developed two strategies which can be employed either together or separately to make the fabric beads more durable and let you enjoy them and your jewellery creation for a much longer time... (5 April 2011)
