The weather had been quite undecided on the two previous days and couldn’t really make up its mind after thundery showers during the night whether or not to let the sun out to play . But I wasn’t at all put out because I don’t have problems with cloudy skies and a few modest rain drops. Especially as a “tornado watch” had been announced for the area where I was staying. The word “tornado” definitely does not belong to my list of favourite English words, but I learnt later that these “tornado watches” don’t usually produce much more than a fairly temperamental thunder storm...

Firmament Block

Firmament Block

The Firmament block is neither complicated nor difficult to sew. It just has a lot of pieces (a total of 68 and all triangles with exception of the four black squares) which makes it perfect for very scrappy quilts. You can place scraps entirely at random, but we suggest that you help "coincidence" along a little to prevent scraps of similar colours congregating. Such colour blobs tend to stick out in a scrap quilt which is otherwise uniform in its diversity... (14 June 2011)

If you have read the Focus on Munich article, you will know where the inspiration for this quilt came from. If you haven't, let us tell you that, in the very centre of Munich, there is a long established shop where you can buy designer clothes, and also, at the rear of the building, all kinds of haberdashery and knitting yarn. The shop is called Ludwig Beck. In their marketing slogan, they call themselves “Ludwig Beck am Rathauseck” which means “at the corner of the town hall”.
