Ok, it's a poetry workshop and at first glance has nothing to do with textiles. BUT - Jane Austen was an accomplished needlewoman and constructing and stitching textiles has much in common with writing your own texts.

Ok, it's a poetry workshop and at first glance has nothing to do with textiles. BUT - Jane Austen was an accomplished needlewoman and constructing and stitching textiles has much in common with writing your own texts.

In this workshop, you will use several different methods to make something whole and finished from the ragbag of ideas and images each of us carries around.

The underlying motif of this trip being literature, a stop at Chawton House was indispensable on our way westward. Here, Jane Austen lived with her mother and sister Cassandra after her father's death. It was one of the most productive periods as a writer and she revised and rewrote some of her major novels and finished her last novel, Persuasion.

Without Jane Austen and her famous novels, many of the Quilt around the World quilts wouldn’t get finished half as quickly, if at all. Most quilts have been introduced to Lizzy and Mr. Darcy already in the sewing stages and by the time they have reached the quilting hoop, they are even on speaking terms with Lady Catherine and Mr. Collins. So when Jutta was researching for a Jane Austen trip to England (another pet project of hers ;-), she found Jennifer Forest’s book “Jane Austen’s Sewing Box” and instantly decided to buy it although it is not a book about quilting....
