Martha-Quilt

The Martha-Quilt is the result of an inspirational process which started with the May block of the American Impressions BOM series. That block triggered a bonus block with Martha Washington’s portrait as a line embroidery motif. And the bonus block demanded an attractive setting so as not to join other solo blocks in the orphan block container awaiting an uncertain future.

The personality of Martha Washington herself also boosted motivation for this quilt. Her biography is an interesting and very instructive read and we thought that this proud and brave Virginian more than deserved this small tribute in cloth... (20 July 2011)

Martha Washington Bonus Block

As with previous blocks, the May 2011 block in the American Impression BOM series – the Martha Washington Star – inspired a bonus block. Or rather the personality of the United States’ first First Lady inspired us to design this very charming variation of the Sawtooth Star which is a close relative to the Martha Washington Star....
