American Impressions

American Impressions

The inspiration for the first Block of the Month (BOM) series on Quilt around the World comes from various sources. First of all, we love sampler quilts because every block is different which is perfect for people like us, who are easily bored. ;-) We also love old blocks, their often poetic names invoking past eras and past (and sometimes also present) trials and tribulations.

So having wanted to make a sampler quilt for some time, the introductory game that Carola and Jutta used on the second day of the QuiltZeitReise 2010 proved to be the last piece in the motivation jigsaw.

Introductory Game

The initial layout, pictured above leaves a lot to be desired! – As does the carpet!! ;-)

For this BOM called “American Impressions”, we have selected 12 blocks that have some connection to destinations of the QuiltZeitReise 2010 – so don’t be surprised if you come across a Southern Belle or a log cabin... ;-)

Every month, we will add a new block. We will provide you with suggestions about how to use the blocks either individually (e. g. in a cushion cover) or in a quilt design that uses only the current block of the month.

While this introductory article is accessible for everybody, the individual blocks are only visible for registered guests or members of Quilt around the World. So register today to access all details of this BOM series!

At the end of this 12 block series, we will give you two layout options to make all twelve different quilt blocks into a sampler quilt:

  • a horizontal 3 by 4 blocks quilt layout with sashings

Horizontal Layout all blocks

Including all blocks

  • a medallion quilt layout that comes with a bonus block for the medallion centre
