Square Surrounded

Square Surrounded

The Square Surrounded sashing block and strips belong to the Artful Crafts quilt and complement the setting of the blocks, but could very well be adjusted to any other block quilt. It is simple, yet creates a sophisticated overall design. The sashing blocks take up the layout of the sashing strip and introduce an on-point square which should be cut from fabric used in the other blocks in the quilt to create design harmony...

Bower of Flowers

Bower of Flowers

The appliqué border designed for the 143 Pyramids quilt consists of two double flowers with an inner and an outer circle of eight petals each and three simple flowers with only the inner circle of petals. The pastel coloured 1930s reproduction fabrics used for the outer petals are set off and contrasted by the inner circle of petals cut from bright red. We are, in general, not that fond of pastel colours and are quite glad that the bright red gives the 143 Pyramids quilt a little kick away from being too “girly”...

Arrow Crown

Arrow Crown Block

The Arrow Crown block is one of our all time favourite blocks. It is a fairly busy block with lots of pieces and looks very good especially in larger sizes. Odd Fellows Chain

Odd Fellows Chain

If you have been with us from the beginning, you might remember Johann’s first quilt block. He made it in summer 2010 as a sort of initiation rite to the quilting world which he now belongs to whether he likes it or not. Houston

Houston

The Houston block is an original design combining the classic and all-time favourite Lone Star with the equally popular Log Cabin patterns. As with all the other previous BOM blocks, we used reproduction fabrics in rather demure colours, but the block would certainly look stunning in more riotous colour combinations... Double Pinwheel

Double Pinwheel

The Double Pinwheel block is an easy block to sew and a perfect companion for more complicated blocks, a great addition to any sampler quilt and very useful as a sashing block or component in a border design. Despite its simplicity, the “whirling” triangles give the block a lot of dynamic and offer countless options for colour and pattern placement to achieve ever more different looks... (21 July 2011)

Card Trick

Card Trick

... The Card Trick block is easy to make if you cut and sew with care and accuracy. Moreover, you can choose whether you want to have two or four different “cards” in your block. Our instructions here are written for two different cards as this won’t leave any leftovers... (19 July 2011)

Crossed Stems

Crossed Stems

This classic appliqué block which we have named “Crossed Stems” is the second appliqué block in the “American Impressions” BOM series. Like its predecessor, the Pomegranate block, this block owes its inclusion to an important historical landmark in Virginia: George Washington Birthplace... (28 June 2011)
