Our great-granfather built the house which our family has now lived in in the third generation in 1905, probably as a wedding present for his son, our grandfather. It is late art nouveau which is also represented in the beautiful grille on our front doors. When we moved into the house, we did some remodeling and had to take out the stone tiles in the store room. Two of the most beautiful are exhibited in our garden. They always remind me of Walter's great-grandfather.

I copied the pattern in its original size and translated it into fabric:

The green background represents our valley, the Toggenburg, with all its hills and meadows. The pattern is a tribute to our great-grandfather, but also a remembrance of the embroidery industry in our canton St. Gallen. I chose the grey fabric (which by the way is a product of Heberlein in Wattwil, a company which went out of business) because close to our village, you will find the highest mountain made up of Nagelfluh (a type of conglomerate rock only found in the Alps). The blue fabric represents the river Thur which flows through our village.
