What Anke says about week 08:

When looking back at my (pretty boring!) block quilt layout of week 4, I knew I had to do something radical with it. First, I tried to cut it into many pieces and put them together again in a random order. The solution was not what I had hoped for. I asked myself: Why should I first cut fabrics into little pieces, sew them together as blocks only to cut them again in pieces afterwards…?! Not very reasonable and economical in my eyes…

My original sketch contained only rough line drawings of the blocks without colors. This reminded me of wholecloth quilt patterns and I decided to only cut out the blocks this time, throw away the borders and rearrange the blocks as a square medallion. Here’s the result. I think the pattern would look great as modern mini wholecloth as well as a simple stained glass quilt…

....and another version in my favorite color combination turquoise with chocolate brown...

Update: In the meantime, I've quilted this pattern as a mini wholecloth block which I'll probably put in a frame and hang it on the wall...
